Charles Robins’s memorial and Wake were held on Friday 15th March. Charles died age 88 and his father RWV Robins, who also played and Captained England, played occasionally for East Molesey, but Charles’s Uncle, RWV’s brother, Colonel Robins, was instrumental in keeping the Club alive and afloat during a tricky period both sides of the Second World war. Therefore, it was very gratifying that Charles’s wake was such a great success. Attendees were particularly complimentary about what a delightful ground we have. In addition, further compliments were made throughout with regard to the quality of the food and wines on offer, and the quality of service throughout. It was a great advert for the Club, with a number of cricketing dignitaries attending, including three former Presidents of the MCC and two former England Captains, namely Mike Brearley and Mike Gatting. Befitting of Charles , who contributed so greatly towards the well being of both Middlesex CCC and The MCC. Hopefully Charles would have approved of the celebration of his life, having lived in a house boat on Taggs Island for 10 years, and who enjoyed popping over and watching numerous games over a pint of his favourite ale. The Club will always remember him fondly.
