The mighty under-9 girls, The Amazons, won GOLD at last week's indoor six-a-side festival at Feltonfleet in Cobham. The squad has entered a handful of these hugely enjoyable events – run by Surrey CCC – and has had increasing success: a bronze (out of three, ahem), followed a silver two weeks ago then a dominant performance the last Sunday in November earned gold.

The Amazons' squad is deep and talented, with a steady rotation of players taking part. This side featured Milly Craig, Zara Sumner, Alice Craigen, Gabi Steyn, Lyla Rowe, Nina Green (left to right on picture).

Every player had a vital role with sharp fielding from Nina and Milly; tight bowling from Lyla and Gabi with very few wides; thunderous batting from Alice and Zara. The Amazons overpowered Salfords and Wimbledon with dominant performances, winning first 7 then the maximum 8 points in a complex scoring system no one understands but everyone trusts (not least because we won).

Well done the Amazons! More Indoor cricket planned in 2022! Huge thanks to all parents too.
